December 21st
12:15 a.m.
Who are we and why do we do the things we do?
What motivates us in life to move forward as each day begins?
According to what a lot of people say and believe, the world is ending today. Sounds like some made up story that seems far from reality? Yet, actually many people believe that this will in fact happen. Confessions are happening, and people worry. I wonder if it's something they're really serious or not... but either way, people are reacting.
As for myself, I honestly don't believe that this idea is actually going to come true - at least not now, not today. Personally, I believe that this is something no human can actually predict. As it says in the bible: "But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only." - Matthew 24:36
And so although I don’t believe the world is actually ending today, perhaps there’s something else happening that we aren't as aware of. All of us can probably agree that there’s definitely been weird things’ going on in our world today. From random crimes to natural disasters, including with major climate changes, etc. More of these events occur more often as more time goes on. All of the above are definitely out of the ordinary and is something that has brought our attention to the table. Very recently, as many of you know, there was a shooting in the Conneticut, USA. 6 teachers, and 20 students killed... all completely innocent. Only a few months ago at the beginning of summer, there was a different shooting at a Batman premier in Colorado, USA which killed 12 people and injuring over 50. (*side note* don't quote me on these statistics or facts.. it's just what I know from the events and have gathered through online information)
Referring to the most recent incident, it's been something that has quickly been publicized throughout the world. Although I'm currently living in Finland, articles were quickly printed in our newspapers and the attention was brought across our television news programs. This is something that everyone has noticed and everyone has grieved upon.
When I had first found out about this tragedy, I had came across this one video from the news that I had seen online and it really had me start to think about everything. As the news caster was talking about the shooting, he had mentioned someone had asked “Where was God in the time of this event?”and he had simply responded by saying "We have escorted him right out of our culture and we've marched him off the public square... and then we are surprised that a country without Him actually reflects what it's become."

“I will praise the God who gives, and I will praise the God who takes away.”
In these times, when such tragedy's are happening everyone comes together as a community and support one another in their grief. People light candles, pray, and show their respect to the one's they've lost and to those who have lost. It's a time of unity, a time where it doesn't matter who you are or where you come from but everyone is together as one.
"I will praise you in this storm and I will lift my hands. You are who you are, no matter where I am. And every tear I cry you hold in your hands. You never left my side, and though my heart is torn... I will praise you in this storm." - Casting Crowns, Praise You In This Storm
All of this is such an incredible, emotional, and truly inspiring thing. It's how we all should be...but it's also how we should be every day. Later, when other events happen the unity slowly starts to fade away and although it might not ever break, pieces start to go missing. We reach for God and His comfort in these times of need but then when it comes to the time where we don’t need him, we just push him aside and continue with our lives without Him. We're no longer in unity but instead living independently on our own without others, and without God.We push God aside until we need him,
and then when things get hard we reach out for his presence.
And so, with my final thoughts on everything perhaps today on December 21st it won’t be the actual end of the world, but instead the end of everything as we know it.
"But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people." - 2 Timothy 3:1-5
With everything that's been going on, I can definitely say that I believe our world is headed towards darker times. Eventually, someday, the world will end and although we might not know if it's today... 1 week from now, or 1 trillion years from now; it will happen. And although one day we will walk with the Lord and our Earth below won’t matter so much anymore, but in order to be where we want to be then we have to take action in our lives while here on earth.
